I had 3 wisdom teeth removed March 8, 2002... It is now October 9, 2002 and as a result I have "permanent" damage to my lower right side and chin that always feel burning and numb, yet painful to outside touch. I was diagnosed with TMJ years ago because of reoccuring ear aches. After the oral surgeon reviewed my x-rays, he disagreed and decided to remove 3 impacted wisdom teeth - he felt that the largest bottom one on left side was very close to nerve and could be causing the pain. Now, I've had the wisdom teeth out with a wide variety of symptoms including not being able to close my mouth completely because of a "shocking" shooting pain down into my chin; I cannot chew whatsoever on my right side; my jaw aches and hurts all of the time; my jaw feels misalligned - when I try to rest my jaw, my teeth on the right side hit top and bottom, but the left side does not touch at all; constant burning feeling inside mouth where extraction areas were; knots on both sides of inner bottom jaw that hurt to touch; and now with weather getting cooler, my jaw has a tightening feeling upon coldness... I am at a loss of what to do... Original oral surgeon fit me for a bite guard (free of charge) and feels very badly for me and tells me simply that he hasn't come across anyone so slow to heal in his 25 yrs. of practice...I have since been to a microneurosurgeon in Baltimore, MD approx. 2 months after surgery... he gave me a shot that helped the burning in my lips and tongue; however, he moved out of the area and I am at a loss of where to go and what to do next. I too have had a cat scan recently which showed no abnormal growths and the MRI I had was fruitless because they said I had too much metal in my mouth and it descrambled the x-rays... (I only have a couple of fillings)... So, any suggestions from anyone of where to go or what to do next...
